Winners of the WSOP

The most popular poker tournament in the world is the World Series of Poker (WSOP) which is played each year and runs from the end of May to mid-July culminating with the Championship.  Many players both professional and amateur have tried their hand at this game, but there are a few that stand out for their poker skills.

Antonio Esfandiari

Born in Iran, Antonio “the magician” moved with his family from Tehran in 1988.  His first job was being a waiter and it is here that he discovered a passion for magic and found that he could make more money doing magic tricks than waiting tables.   It did not take long before the magician began playing poker and became really good at it.  In 2004 he won the LA Poker Classic and won the 1st prize of $1.4 million.  A few months later he found himself up against poker star Phil Nguyen who he beat and took home $184 860 and the gold bracelet. Antonio has won around $21 777 867 and continues to entertain people with his chip tricks.

Daniel Colman

Daniel Colman was born in 1991 in Massachusetts and now lives in Rio.  Colman is primarily an online poker player but is also known for his big win of $1 million in tournaments during 2013, quite an accomplishment.  In April 2014 he won the Super High Roller Tournament in Monte Carlo.  He came in 3rd place at the 2014 WSOP Heads Up Event and then went on to win $15 306 668 at the Big One for One Drop.  This is the 2nd biggest 1st place prize in the history of this game.  Colman also beat poker player Daniel Negreanu. Daniel Negreanu

Born in Canada in 1974 it was at the age of sixteen that he found his passion for poker.  When he left high school he began playing professionally at many of Canada’s top casinos and soon he was winning and his bankroll increased.  Negreanu has won almost every poker tournament and in 2013 he won the WSOP APAC main event.  He was the runner up of the 2014 Big One for One Drop trainmen where he walked away with $8.2 million.  He is a well-loved player who gives back to young poker players and continues to have success.  He is said to have won a total of $16 197 209 during his poker career.  

Jonathan Duhamel

Duhamel is a Canadian born poker player and is best known for winning the main event of the 2010 WSOP and has also won 3 bracelets.  In the 2010 Main Event Duhamel won $8 994 310 and was the first player from Canada to win this event.  He has also won twice at the 2011 WSOP and earned over $40 000.  Duhamel won his 2nd bracelet and the High Roller for One Drop in 2015 with earnings of $3 989 985.  He a supporter of children’s foundation and donated money from his winnings to them  

Phil Hellmuth

Hellmuth has won 13 WSOP Championships as well as the European title in France.  He is also the record holder of the most cash finishes.  In 1989 he also held the record for being the youngest poker player.  He won 3 bracelets in 1993 and won a place at the One Drop for One in 2012.  His poker winnings amount to around $13 million.
