A Roulette Guide for Beginners

Roulette the casino game gets its name from a French word which means little wheel. The rules of Roulette are fairly easy to understand and unlike other casino games, where practice makes you perfect the best part in roulette game for beginners and experienced players have the equal odds of winning all that is required is a good dosage of luck and proper understanding of the rules of this game. In roulette players have a great number of options to place bets, they may bet on a single or a range of numbers, they may choose the colors red or black or also if the number is even or odd. Based on their prospects and funds the players can opt for an aggressive betting strategy or play somewhat safer and settle for smaller potential winnings.

This game came into being more than 300 years ago when a Frenchman Blaise Pascal in his attempt to create a perpetual motion machine invented the Roulette wheel. It gained a lot of popularity fairly quickly and within a century it was a famous game in Paris. In the due course of time, the roulette table underwent many changes in its shape and structure and can now be found even  in an online casino. When the game went to the US the changes were even more plentiful, the French version has more traditional structure and better chances for the players at the same time adding two special rules for the aficionados of the game.

Rules:

Roughly speaking the aim of this game is to win as much as you can and avoiding as many downswings as you possibly can or more precisely the players are supposed to guess the correct number on which the ball will stop after the spin. There are diverse sets of bets a player can choose from and each one has a different payout with the best-paying bets having the most risk at hand.

Before the ball drops the players have to place the bets but it’s also possible to wager the bets when the wheel is in motion. Dealer calls the end of betting phase and once the ball stops in the final resting place, the victor is paid and then the new round is started. It is the dealer’s job to clear off all losing bets and to remove the marker from the winning number.

Besides these rules, there are a few concerning the etiquettes of the game as well. Like those who are not placing bets (non-players) are not supposed to sit at the roulette table seats and the dealer can kindly ask them to step aside. Players without interfering with their peers are supposed to place their bets as soon as possible so that everyone can wager before dealer calls no more bets.

Roulette Bets and Odds:

After a player purchases chips, he can bet on any number, group of numbers or betting areas. The only issue being that he has to do so within a specific and definite time frame. The dealer can also pitch in with assistance if sought for by the players.

Chiefly there are two types of roulette bets which are known as outside bets (50-50 chances of winning) and inside bets (riskier but with bigger payouts).

Outside Bets

Probably the most famous of roulette bets which allows even money and the player can bet on either color when he wins he is allowed to keep the initial state and he is entitled to an equal amount as well.

Odd and even also has the same ratio difference being in the fact that the players can bet on either even or an odd number. The High and Low is also even money bet. It’s the one between the numbers ranging from 1-18 or 19-36 and in all these bets house extracts its edge from the zero slot. American roulette has two zeroes, players playing with that has to deal with a bigger house edge. On the other hand, people playing in French roulette, which is another version of European roulette have a better chance of winning owing to the ‘in prison rule’. Mainly if the ball lands on zero, the player doesn’t lose the money, but its ‘locked’ if it the next wager is a winner, the money is released or else it goes to casino’s coffers. Different type of outside bets is where the payout is in the ratio of 2:1 as the chances of winning in them are 33%. The most popular version being “The Dozens” where the player places the bets on first twelve numbers or next twelve or the last twelve. The Same rule is applied for the column bets with the difference being in the distribution of betting grid pattern.

Inside Bets

These are high-risk bets as odds of winning are greatly reduced, but then the potential profits are quite high in this type. Gamblers will normally bet using inside bets as the payout is as great as 35-1 and the odds being 37:1. The second most risky bet being the split, in this players are betting on two numbers and if the prediction is correct the initial bet is increased 17 times. The street bet is a fancy name to the bet that pays 11:1 if the ball lands on one of the three numbers he picks. A corner bet pays 8:1 if the player rightly chooses the one in four numbers on which the ball lands. The five number wager is rarely used as it carries a massive house edge of 7.9% while the ROI is 6 to 1 it’s found in American roulette only. In fact, the odds are much better if you opt for a double street wager as you bet on six numbers and the payout is 5:1.
