When Gambling Becomes An Issue

Gambling has been around for centuries, and issues relating to gambling including debt and addiction have always circulated with it. When you find yourself in a spiral of debt caused by the addiction to gambling, it can be very hard on your finances. This is particularly true if you have a family to support, mouths to feed and a roof to keep over your head.

There are several steps you can take to stop gambling, and get back on track to a normal life, and this blog post is designed to give you an idea how to do so, hopefully helping some of you with your addiction.

A small break will help

If you can manage just one day without gambling, then you have the will power to do longer. Stay away from casino’s, keep off the internet. Gambling is like a drug, if it’s not accessible there is a less likely chance you will abuse it.

Think of your loved ones

If you have children, try to picture them going without because of your gambling problem. Imagine them without food, or you having to sell your house in a hurry in order to raise cash, forcing them to become homeless. All of these negative images will create an abundance of loathing towards gambling, and positively reinforce you to stay away from it.

Losing hurts

Try to think of all the times you have lost money gambling? I’m sure you have lost more than you have ever gained. Keep that mental image of losing with you when you go to gamble, and it will put you off spending another penny in the slots.

Find a replacement

There are plenty of other activities which give the same buzz as gambling wins. Why not join a sporting group or some other social activity? Find a local gym. Anything like this will help take you mind away from spending money gambling.

Join a support group

You are not alone with your gambling addiction, there are support groups with members just like you going through the exact same issues. It may be a good idea for you to join one, make friends and find a ‘buddy’ whom can help support you through your addiction.
